How are Aflex hose products created?

Lined with polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE), Aflex hoses offer excellent chemical resistance. Their structure provides a smooth bore to ensure clean, fast performance, resistant to high pressures and temperatures up to 260C.

PTFE is proven to outperform rubber, silicone and PVC in similar applications. Cleanability and steam resistance ensures compliance to the highest hygiene standards. Hoses are constructed without the use of adhesives, eliminating the risk of contamination. The combination of PTFE with the stainless steel spiral, the metal housing and a finishing layer gives this product not only very high pressure resistance but also unprecedented flexibility.

Aflex unique PTFE liner

The patented design of the PTFE liner used in Aflex hoses ensures that the liner is treated on the outside so that the stainless steel spiral is recessed into the PTFE, leaving the inside of the PTFE untouched. This helps to retain a smooth circular bore throughout the hose, without distortion. This results in:

  • Highly flexible and kink-resistant hoses
  • No entrapment zones
  • Minimal turbulence, meaning a faster flow rate
  • Hoses available with either natural or anti-static patented PTFE liner
  • Eliminated risk of contamination because no adhesives are used in manufacture
  • Up to 80mm bore and hose lengths of up to 30 metres

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Aflex hose assemblies

  • What fitting and braid types are available?

Aflex Hose assemblies can be supplied with a wide range of end fittings to suit industrial, chemical and hygienic process applications. Common options include threaded fittings such as NPT and BSP, sanitary fittings like Tri-Clamp (3A) and DIN 11851, as well as cam and groove (Camlock) couplings for quick connection.

To provide pressure resistance and mechanical protection, Aflex hoses are available with different braid and cover options. The most common is a 316 stainless steel braid, which offers high pressure capability and durability. For lighter-duty or operator-friendly applications, a polypropylene braid is available. Additional protection can be added with rubber covers (such as EPDM), platinum-cured silicone covers for hygienic environments, and end protection sleeves to reduce wear near the fittings.

  • Which industries commonly use Aflex products?

Aflex hoses are most common in biotechnology and (bio)pharma, food and beverage, OEM, (waste)water, and industrial and automotive processes.

  • Are Aflex products suitable for hygienic and high-purity applications?

Yes. Many Aflex hoses, such as Bioflex Ultra and Pharmaline, are specifically designed for high-purity environments and meet stringent hygiene standards.

  • Can Aflex products withstand CIP and SIP processes?

Yes. Aflex PTFE hoses are highly resistant to repeated Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) and Sterilization-in-Place (SIP) cycles, including steam sterilization.

  • What temperature range can Aflex products handle?

Depending on the hose type, Aflex PTFE hoses can typically operate at temperatures up to approximately 260 °C (500 °F).

  • Is Aflex ISO-certified?

Yes. Aflex has obtained the ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 certificates. Additionally, Aflex has obtained PED, UKCA, IATF, 3-A Sanitary Standards, and Reach Statement certificates. Like Hitma, Aflex has been rewarded a Silver EcoVadis sustainability rating.
